Three North Dakota School Districts Receive National Accreditation

Three North Dakota school districts have received national accreditation from Cognia, a nonprofit accrediting organization that evaluates schools across the United States.

The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction congratulates the following districts on achieving Accredited with Merit status:
• West Fargo School District
• Kidder County School District
• Elgin-New Leipzig School District

There were also two early learning facilities that earned Cognia’s Accredited with Merit distinction: Early Childhood Special Education School (Fargo) and the West Fargo Early Childhood Center. This recognition signifies that the district exceeded Cognia’s expectations for accreditation, demonstrated high student performance in at least one curricular area, and had at least one noteworthy practice identified by the review team.

“Across North Dakota, we see districts both big and small providing excellent educational opportunities for our students” State Superintendent Levi Bachmeier said. “It is important to celebrate those achieving national recognition. Through a student-focused culture, commitment to improvement, and strong systems, these schools have built an environment where students can learn, grow and thrive. Their accreditation scores reflect not only strong practices, but a dedication to doing what is right for the young people of our state. We are grateful for the leadership and effort that has made these successes possible for thousands of North Dakota students.”

Cognia accreditation follows a six-year cycle that includes the accreditation engagement review, multiple years of continuous improvement work, a mid-cycle progress review, and preparation for the next cycle.
