ICYMI: Local Moms Slam Joe Lombardo For Putting Donald Trump Over Nevada Families
NV Dems held a press conference with Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno, local moms, and a pediatric nurse to call out Joe Lombardo and Donald Trump’s steep health care cuts that are shuttering NICUs, laying off health care workers, and leaving Nevada families behind. Since Trump’s budget bill took effect, two hospitals in Nevada were forced to cut services and even more are at risk. Nevada is one of three states with the longest driving times to rural hospitals providing inpatient maternity care to Medicaid enrollees.
Here’s what people are saying about Nevada’s maternal health care crisis on Lombardo’s watch:

Las Vegas Sun: Democrats point to two Nevada hospitals as proof of health law’s harm
- Nevada Democrats are pointing to Boulder City Hospital and Henderson Hospital as examples of the toll they say President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act is taking on healthcare access in the state.
- Nevada Hospital Association CEO Patrick Kelly has estimated the changes will reduce supplemental Medicaid payments to the state’s hospitals by $300 million in fiscal year 2028 and $507 million in fiscal year 2029.
- “Henderson Hospital announced it is cutting the NICU and maternal health unit because of Medicaid cuts, passed by Trump’s one big, beautiful, but what I call scary, bill,” Nevada Democratic Party Chair and state Assemblymember Daniele Monroe-Moreno said Tuesday during an event on maternal health.
News 3: Nevada leaders warn Henderson Hospital closure will strain Clark County maternal care
- Nevada state leaders, local health care officials and parents are raising concerns about the growing impact of shutting down maternal health units, following a decision by Henderson Hospital to close its NICU and maternal units.
- The decision goes into effect at the end of next month and will reduce the number of NICUs in Clark County to eight.
- Nevada Democrats said the state consistently ranks as one of the worst in the country for maternal health outcomes.
- “During labor, we’re already seeing maternal health care units and NICU units being closed down. And that’s the thing that we feel like we are the most hurt in. When it comes to mental health care, when it comes to all of the problems that can happen after birth, when it comes to all of the things that can happen during pregnancy that we’re not even told about, we know that those are only going to continue to fall more and more by the wayside,” said local mom Haley Nartker.
KNPR: Maternity care deserts
- “I want to play a clip from a press conference yesterday hosted by the Nevada Democrats. They organized their press conference criticizing President Trump and Governor Lombardo’s health care policies. One speaker, Jody Domineck, is a local pediatric nurse. She talked about how difficult her long drive to see her children in the NICU was” said Paul Boger.
- “That 30 minutes breaks your heart. That 30 minutes is 30 min I’m separated from my new baby. That 30 min is a delay in getting to them when they need you, when you need to be with your child at the most crucial of times,” said pediatric nurse and local mom Jody Domineck
