Moon Selected for 9th Hong Kong International Youth Film Festival

BEIJING, CHINA, September 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Chinese feature film Moon has been selected for the 9th Hong Kong International Youth Film Festival, bringing a rural story about outdoor film projection, family ties and changing times to an international film audience.

Produced by Aikesen (Beijing) Film and Television Culture Co., Ltd., with Beijing Shinshot Media Co., Ltd. as a co-producer, the film follows Lao Yang, a rural projectionist who has spent decades traveling between villages to screen films for local residents. After the death of a fellow projectionist, Lao Yang sets out to fulfill a promise by taking his recently released daughter, Fang Kun, back along the projection route once traveled by their predecessors.

As father and daughter journey through rural communities, their shared experiences gradually reshape their understanding of each other and prompt them to confront past regrets and life choices. The film uses outdoor cinema as a lens through which to examine personal relationships and memories of social change in rural China.

Producer Diyuan Zhu applied data-driven management methods during production, analyzing scheduling, staffing, resource allocation, costs and potential risks. The approach was particularly relevant to filming in mountainous areas, where complex locations and logistical coordination presented additional challenges. The production team used these assessments to adjust its shooting plans and improve coordination across different stages of production.

Director Jinmeihuadan said the film uses the journey of delivering movies to explore how people form emotional connections and come to understand and forgive one another.

Its selection for the festival provides another platform for the film to engage with international audiences and industry professionals.
