Wilson County Proudly Announces the Launch of Its First Ever Mayor’s Youth Council
Wilson County high schoolers now have a direct line to local government with the launch of the first ever Mayor's Youth Council. This application-based program is designed to build student leaders through civic engagement and community service. The initiative originated from a Youth Leadership Wilson project and was later presented to Mayor Hutto by local students, who helped bring the idea to life.
The council held a successful inaugural meeting on September 24, 2026, at the Wilson County Courthouse, bringing together four student representatives from each WCS high school to emphasize inclusiveness across the county. Mayor Hutto installed Sandra Yousif, Ammara Mace, and Emily Hudlow as officers of the Mayor’s Youth Council. Representatives from Mt. Juliet, Wilson Central, Green Hill, Lebanon, and Watertown high schools attended, with plans underway to include local private schools as well. During the meeting, Mayor Hutto spoke with the students and emphasized the importance of youth leadership in shaping the county’s future, setting an enthusiastic tone for the meaningful work ahead.
“Launching the Mayor’s Youth Council marks an exciting new chapter for our community. These exceptional student leaders are gaining firsthand experience in local government while contributing fresh ideas that will positively shape the future of Wilson County. Seeing this initiative transition from a vision into an active, representative council gives me tremendous confidence in the next generation of leadership.” – Randall Hutto, Wilson County Mayor
We look forward to all the great things these students will accomplish in the coming months!
